PPCT have done a superb job in reviewing the Eten M600. A very informative and "complete" review. Those of you who have been holding out for this device may now party!!!

From PPCT (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,44578:dont_paginate,1&sid=e14451fff7d9f4fc2134a5ee5087e87b)

"GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a digital technology used for the transmission of most mobile voice and data services as we know it. The number of GSM connections is steadily increasing - as of the third quarter of 2005, there were over 1.5 billion GSM subscribers worldwide. Despite the development and deployment of several 3G technologies, it's safe to say that GSM is here to stay as a basic means of mobile communication, at least for the foreseeable future. Most GSM networks operate at 900MHz/1800MHz, but there are a small number of networks which operate at 850MHz/1900MHz (primarily in North America). Looking at the past and present, most Pocket PC Phone Edition devices support tri-band GSM (900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz), but thanks to the M600's support for the extra band (850MHz), it opens up a whole window of opportunities for roaming - this is something you'll value if you're a frequent traveller."

Looks cool and great - but will it be enough with the 400 MHz processor power???

Device design is good

Hi SKP,

If you see the benchmarks, the device is actually faster than the Jasjar and the Axim.

I dont say benchmarks are the defining factor to purchase a device but it would atleast give you some idea about the device performance. Eten have a bright future and their products for 2006/7 will definitely pit them up against other competitors.

Only thing missing IMO is a qwerty keyboard....perhaps next year http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/wink.gif

from where can i get m600 in dubai

Docc

Hi Danny,

Baud rate is something thats specific to GPS devices. Normally, by default it is set to 9600, but some programmes like to use it at 36800. Go to the GPS applet in your device and in that, configure your GPS device and one of the options in that will be baud rate.

Another easier way is to skip this GPS applet and go directly to the GPS programme and under settings you will find COM port and Baud rate. COM port is normally, 1,3,5,8 and Baud rate is usually 9600. If you are using Navigon, then set the baud rate to 36800.

Hi ror,

You cannot find the Eten M600 in Dubai as Eten does not market its products in the Middle-east. You can find a Middle-east version called Everex E960 which will be available pretty soon hopefully.

Hi Danny,

Thats interesting. Is warranty offered or was it without warranty? Its odd that the M600 is available here because Everex already markets their products here.

Can you please give me information regarding the warranty and if possible, details of their service centre too.

Thanks! http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/smile.gif

Hi Danny,

All you need to do is soft-reset the device. There must be a small hole on the bottom or side of the device, just insert the stylus and press the tiny button and this will restart the device.

Alternatively, you can remove the battery and replace it and that would reset the device too, but the first solution is the apt one http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/wink.gif

It's nothing to do with pre paid card http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/smile.gif.
The first link is no good to you as it's not Wasel (pre paid card} your settings generally will be similar but prefixed with wasel

access point = waselmnet
I have no ip address.
select use server assigned ip address

If the CAB did not work go to Etisalats web site they have a generic settings page.

Hi Saj,

There will be an application called as SIM manager. Opening this application will show all the contacts on your SIM card and there will be an option to transfer one or all contacts to your device.

Hi Docc,

I have one more query regarding the GPS. If i install a software will the GPS work...SAJ

Docc

Hi Saj,

Thats rather odd. Sim took kit on an average is supported on most devices. It works fine on my Jasjar and did so even on my older devices. I guess its specific to the Eten. Sorry, no work-around for it.

Regarding GPS, you will need to purchase a GPS receiver for the software to be of any use. I suggest you invest in a good GPS receiver like the Holux GPSlim-236 (which is available at gadgetsworld at the lowest price) and as far as software is soncerned, there are a few options for the Middle-East such as Navigon, UAElocator, Easy Nav etc.
