I don't know what's up with that, why someone would refuse to send his passport copy, I've done that many times when I buy on the net. So it is not really an issue http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/rolleyes.gif

I get the same frustration when ordering abroad over the net. Its just the way it is with some companies.

But I don’t think it is a burden to send a passport copy, they need that in order to avoid fraud.

I know and appreciate, but as an individual, I too am afraid of fraud over my passport, you know people using my passport details for what they wouldnt use theirs for. Thats why I went to other sources that didnt rquire passport copies

Passport fraud can happen any day any time! You cannot control it 100%. How many copies you have faxed and who received them! How many copies you gave outside your office or home, and where they are now! Who is having access to your private files? I believe that prevention is better than cure, but remember you already trusted them with your Credit Card number! http://pocketpcdubai.com/Forums/smileys/wink.gif

buying from the internet is not secured, but do we have a better option? I think we have to find well know trustworthy sites for that

The day before i-mate was lunched I remember calling CompuMe and asking them about the device, the next day I asked them to update their web site I sent them an email strictly written to encourage them to update as fast as possible. They didn’t have the product listed on their site, but I wanted them to hurry since I know a lot of inquires are coming their way from international buyers. Well people are inquiring by emailing me and I direct them to CompuMe, still until today some readers contact me for the same. Well CompuMe didn’t respond to my email at all, but I was really surprised that they took it seriously and they had a big picture of i-mate on their main page. In one instance I called their sales representative then he directed me to another who is handling international orders. Actually I was asking or you can say tracking my friend’s order, and he clearly explained to me that there is a problem with the order that they have a security concern.

What do you think they want to sell it, but it gets worst when they become greedy and start selling incompatible accessories. I think people are complaining against them here in the forums.

One of the frustrations of living here (Dubai) is the number of times I find a company online who are not willing to ship internationally or to the Gulf region in particular. Apparently there is a high rate of fraud from the Gulf region (whatever that means). I'd prefer not to send my passport copy but if that's what I need to do to get items that are difficult to find, then I'd check the company is for real and then send it.

I think this is a very unfair statement to make and if it is being said by suppliers then its an excuse for their business shortfalls. Amazon, Ebay and other internet suppliers who deliver to the Gulf are no less conserned about fraud then the other suppliers. We all know that the GCC is still one of the safest places in the world.

I agree with Alman, the crime rate in UAE is very low, is one of the lowest in the world, and it is the best place for investors
